Hope: Annelyse
Click, click, click, click, click, Stop. The door opens with the sensor under the door sensing my foot.
“Hello, Ms. Blair,” said Percy. As I handed my dear friend and employee my Louis bag, “Good evening, Mr. Thomas. Thank you, Percy, you are much appreciated.”
I am one of those rich people that has their own butler, yes I said butler, and let me reveal that I am not the happiest person, but I am the most prepared, or anal, if you will. So let me reiterate again: money does not mean happiness.
I also am that person that wears red bottom heels in the snow. And I can drive in the snow, too, in the pumps.
Friend, let me introduce myself. My name is Annelyse Blair, Annie S. Blair to be exact.
And this is my story.
“Did you get my Publix today? My calendar had it at 16:00,” I said to Percy. He said, “Yes mam, of course, at 16:01. How long have I been your assistant now?” I said, “Thanks. You know how I have to keep things in order, don’t you? Thank GOD you got my Stella Rosa Peach AND my Crown Peach!” He laughed and said, “And THAT’S why I love you AND I know how to take care of my girl.” “Mwah,” I gave him a kiss on the cheek and told him that I loved him too.
I opened up my wine glass cabinet, yes I am that person, that picks which stem color every evening for my wine, also, every ending of the day. Hmmmm. I’m going to go with the red to match the f*ck a la la la. And their blood I have on their hands. Did I mention I hate the holidays?
“Annie, I checked your P.O. Box for you,” Percy said as I glared at him. “Why’d you do that? You know I don’t like that,” I said. He continued on with,“You got a letter from—,” Swiftly interrupting him, I said, “Don’t utter that name in my house. Are we clear?” “Darling, you must not be healed from this or you wouldn’t react to the calls, the letters, the messages, emails, door knocks,” Percy said concerningly. “Would you be able to?,” I asked. He said, “Yes mam. If I really loved them.” I said, “This wasn’t one of those situations where love trumped all, was it?” Percy just smiled. I gulped the Stella.
“Annie, Annelyse, Ann (I cut my eyes at him), love is not black and white, even gray. Have you ever seen The Hunger Games?” Percy said. I said, “The one where they kill each other with their bare hands? Yeah, seems familiar, understandable.” Percy said with a smile and a chuckle, “My dear, in the movie, the white haired man talked about how hope was always greater than fear. Try it sometime. Do you think R—they were trying to hurt you?”
This story is not about love, or hope, yet. I have to be bitter for a minute before we crack and peel the shell off, get to the underbelly.
“Percy, that kind of betrayal was gut wrenching.” He said, “I know. I had to hold your hair back from the vomit. I had to hold you as you cried before and after dinner, I had to move their place setting. And I had to get rid of their green wine stem they drank out of for you.” “Good, that’s how it needs to be,” I said as I walked into my bedroom.
Flashback: when I told Percy to take the rest of the trash out along with them, I sat on the couch and stared away in the living room. With my wine glass. With my Evian water in it.
I had three missed calls from them, Rowen, that day. Never a voicemail, though.
“Got a secret? Can ya keep it?” Gotta love Pretty Little Liars.
It was Wednesday night. I had to read this blog, it was named, “The Woman Crush Wednesday.” Admittedly, love how she “Taylor Swift’s” people. I could never do that. I am very private. I’m that person that has thirty one pairs of the same pants. In every color, at least two of each. Anal, much?
I picked up the stupid book that they gave me. Written inside, “I love you. Forever. Xx, R.” “How ignorant,” I thought. I threw it down on the bed. I really should burn that down to the ground, let it be ashes.
I never let Percy see me angry. Because he knows the truth. He is my closest friend. I’ve always dealt with things in private. Well, before they came along.
There you have it: an excerpt from an upcoming novel of mine! I love Annie, don’t you? Who is Rowen?
I hope you enjoyed!
